F-stop
The numerical measurement of aperture opening size.
What is f-stop?
F-stop (or f-number) indicates aperture size. Lower numbers (f/1.4, f/2.8) mean larger openings that let in more light with shallower depth of field. Higher numbers (f/11, f/16) mean smaller openings with less light but more of the image in focus. For product photography, f/8-f/11 balances sharpness with depth of field.
Pro tips
f/8-f/11 typically provides the sharpest results on most lenses
Very small apertures (f/22+) can cause diffraction softness
