Diffusion

Diffusion is the process of scattering light rays to create softer, more even illumination. This is achieved by placing translucent material (like fabric, plastic, or paper) between the light source and subject. Diffused light wraps around objects, reduces harsh shadows, minimizes specular highlights, and is generally more flattering for products. Common diffusers include softboxes, umbrellas, scrims, and even household items like white sheets or shower curtains.
